The Sea Bridge is an important transport system that connects different cities, allowing people to travel in much lesser time, and with greater ease. They are truly engineering marvels. This has been made possible because of the development of long sea bridges, like the Sea Link.
Recently, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the construction of the longest sea bridge in the country, the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) bridge, will be completed and open for public use by November 2023.The MTHL is a massive structure – 6 lanes wide, 22km long, and spanning from Sewri in Central Mumbai to Chile in Navi Mumbai. This incredible feat of engineering reduces the travel time between the two cities to just 20 minutes, a gateway between two of India’s busiest cities.
The sheer length of MTHL ensures that it will reduce the travel time of thousands of commuters a day, taking the stress and rush out of daily travel. It will also be beneficial for the economic growth of the region as more and more people will be coming in and out of these places. The MTHL bridge is nearing completion and is being made with an expenditure of Rs. 17,000 crores.
