The Foreign Office Discussions took place between India and Iran while Tehran’s Deputy Foreign Minister of Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani was in town. Dr. Kani, a close cousin of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is in charge of the country’s nuclear talks and is regarded as a member of the country’s governing elite.
Since the country’s attack on democracy protestors began in September, this is Iran’s first high-profile visit. India didn’t give any response regarding the attack of the Iran government towards the protesters, According to a news release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs following the meetings between the two countries, during the discussion, the two parties confirmed their commitment to maintaining collaboration for the construction of the Shahid Beheshti terminal of the “Chabahar Port”.
The Ministry spokeswoman said that there were no developments regarding the purchasing of Iranian oil by India. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra served as the head of the Indian side at the conference. The Ministry stated that the meetings covered “the whole range of bilateral ties, including political, economic, cultural, and judicial” elements. The two parties discussed regional and global challenges, particularly in Afghanistan. Dr. Kani, the deputy foreign minister, gave the foreign secretary a report on things regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
