According to Piyush Goyal, the plan calls for the use of PAN as an exclusive identity for accessing the National Single Window System (NSWS) in place of other identities for federal and state regulatory approvals. Piyush Goyal, the minister of commerce and industry, said the government is considering using the Permanent Account Number, or PAN, as a single-point identifier to speed up regulatory approvals for new investment proposals under the single window and to provide a similar facility for lisence renewals and periodic compliances.
At a news conference on Monday, he explained that the idea calls for adopting PAN as a singular identification for entry into the National Single Window System (NSWS) rather than using other identifiers for central and state-level regulatory clearances.
In order to ensure a distinct business user ID, PAN is likely to be employed as a unique identity for API integration of data between ministries and states. According to him, NSWS utilises an auto-population module to automatically fill up several forms with the same data and reduce data duplication. Goyal continued by saying the Department of Revenue (DoR) has already been contacted about this issue by the Ministry of Commerce. An arm of the Union finance ministry is called DoR.
