Congress “Firebrand” Sukhvinder Sukhu is now Himachal’s Chief Minister.
The four-time MLA began his political career at NSUI and also served as the party’s state unit chairman for six years. His criticism of former CM Virbhadra Singh was well-known.
There were tears in Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s eyes when the Congress chose him as the new chief minister of Himachal Pradesh — a reflection of a common man’s rise through the political ranks to occupy the top post in the state.
Sukhuwinder Singh Sukhu announced after taking office as chief minister on Monday that the Himachal Pradesh cabinet would be extended soon after consulting with the Congress high command and would start working on enacting pre-election promises from its first Cabinet meeting. All “guarantee measures,” according to Sukhu, would be put into effect at the first Cabinet meeting. He added that a Transparency Act would be introduced to guarantee that corruption would not be tolerated. On Sunday, Sukhu and Mukesh Agnihotri both took the oath of office to become the 15th Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, respectively.
