Delicious Barfi Recipes for Maa Mahagauri Bhog on Navratri Day 8

On the eighth day of Shardiya Navratri, devotees pay homage to Maa Mahagauri, the divine goddess believed to symbolize purity and serenity. As part of the bhog (offering) rituals, delectable sweets take center stage. To make your celebrations even more special, we bring you two delightful barfi recipes that will surely please the goddess and your taste buds.

1. Kesar Pista Barfi:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk powder
  • 1/2 cup of condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • A pinch of saffron strands (kesar)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped pistachios (pista)
  • 1/2 tsp of cardamom powder
  • A few drops of ghee (clarified butter)

Instructions:

  1. In a non-stick pan, mix milk powder, condensed milk, and regular milk.
  2. Cook this mixture on low heat while stirring continuously.
  3. Add saffron strands and keep stirring until the mixture thickens.
  4. Once the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan, add cardamom powder and chopped pistachios. Mix well.
  5. Grease a plate with ghee and transfer the mixture onto it.
  6. Flatten it out evenly and let it cool.
  7. After it cools, cut it into square or diamond-shaped pieces.

2. Coconut Barfi:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of grated coconut
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/2 tsp of cardamom powder
  • 2-3 tbsp of ghee (clarified butter)
  • Chopped almonds and cashews for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat ghee in a pan and add grated coconut.
  2. Roast the coconut on medium heat until it turns golden brown.
  3. In a separate pan, heat milk and add sugar to make a syrup.
  4. Add the milk-sugar syrup to the roasted coconut and stir continuously.
  5. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  6. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
  7. Grease a plate with ghee, transfer the mixture onto it, and flatten it out evenly.
  8. Garnish with chopped almonds and cashews.
  9. Once it cools, cut it into squares or diamond shapes.
