In a momentous achievement for India’s space exploration, the Chandrayaan-3 team was honored with the prestigious India Business Awards (IBLA) for Outstanding Contribution to Brand India. This recognition follows the triumphant lunar mission that not only elevated India’s global standing in space exploration but also underscored the nation’s commitment to scientific excellence.
Chandrayaan-3 Team’s Lunar Triumph and IBLA Honor
During a captivating interaction on the IBLA stage, the Chandrayaan-3 team shared their experiences, emotions, and the unexpected surprise that unfolded in the mission control room during the spacecraft’s descent.
M. Sankaran, the Project Director of Chandrayaan-3, reminisced about the tense atmosphere in the control room as they monitored the countdown. “We were watching the countdown, and suddenly it was over — the craft had landed. We knew that we are going to do it, and we saw that it is happening as planned, flawlessly,” said Sankaran. The final touchdown moments felt slower, and Sankaran credited the success to his colleague, Dr P. Veeramuthuvel.
Dr Veeramuthuvel emphasized the significance of teamwork at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and acknowledged the meticulous effort put into the Chandrayaan-3 mission. “It is true teamwork. It is all of ISRO coming together, working together to make the magic happen,” said Dr Veeramuthuvel, expressing gratitude to the jury.
Dr Veeramuthuvel highlighted the painstaking effort required for a mission of this magnitude, describing it as a highly responsible project. “It’s more than a scientific achievement; it has become a country’s achievement. We are very happy about that,” he added.
Future Missions: Dr Veeramuthuvel on Chandrayaan-3’s Motivation
When questioned about scripting success stories and the team’s future endeavors, Dr Veeramuthuvel shared, “This success gives a lot of motivation for us. We work for this mission, and it gives us a boost. We will come up with much more interesting missions. The Prime Minister of India has already announced that we aim to have humans on the Moon by 2040, and we are working towards that.
