Winter has been especially brutal this year and across India from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, people are struggling to handle the extreme cold. According to the weather department, there’s no relief in sight and the current weather trend is expected to remain around for most of January. The intense cold weather has resulted in biting cold and below-the-normal temperatures, with even severe cold wave conditions reported in some areas. With the wind chill, people are having to face temperatures significantly lower than the average minimum temperature experienced during this time of the year.
In the state of Punjab, the cold wave has been particularly intense, and because of this situation, the state Government has taken decisive action to protect the health and well-being of young students. On Friday, the Punjab Government announced that they have extended the winter holidays for all government, private, and aided schools until January 14. This decision applies to students of Classes 1 to 7. Students of Classes 8 to 12 will still have to attend school to ensure they don’t miss out on their studies; however, the school hours have been modified to just 10 am to 3 pm instead of the normal timings of early morning.
