The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Saumya Chaurasia, a deputy secretary working in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s office in connection with an illegal coal levy scandal in the State.

She was therefore placed in ED custody for four days by a special court in Raipur district for charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). She is viewed as a significant bureaucrat in the country.

According to Ms. Chaurasia’s defense lawyer Faizal Rizvi, the judge only allowed four days of detention, despite the ED’s request for 14 days of custody, the officer involved in this matter was presented before Additional District and Sessions Judge Ajay Singh Rajput after her detention.

According to Mr. Rizvi, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raised a suspected land purchase by the officer who had been sent to the I-T Department for examination and Saumya Chaurasia had explained the agreement. She was arrested because of the huge corruption found during her custody.
