Salim Khan, a prominent philanthropist based in New Delhi, has launched a new campaign through his organization, Little India Foundation, aimed at ending hunger in India. The “One Meal a Day” campaign seeks to provide a nutritious meal to every person in need across the country.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, India has one of the highest rates of malnutrition in the world, with over 190 million people undernourished. This alarming statistic prompted Salim Khan and his team to take action.
“We believe that no one should go hungry in India,” said Salim Khan, founder of Little India Foundation. “Our ‘One Meal a Day’ campaign is our way of addressing this urgent issue and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
The campaign aims to provide one free meal to every person in need across the country, with a focus on low-income families, the homeless, and those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Little India Foundation has partnered with local NGOs, community groups, and government agencies to identify areas of need and distribute meals.
The meals provided throughout the campaign are nutritious and follow food safety and hygiene protocols to ensure that they are safe for consumption. The initiative also supports local suppliers by sourcing ingredients from them, thus boosting the local economy.
“We believe that by providing a nutritious meal to those in need, we cannot only address the issue of hunger but also improve the overall health and well-being of communities,” said Zubidha Khan, Director of Little India Foundation.
The campaign has already made significant progress in reaching its goal of providing one meal a day to those in need. Since its launch in November 2020, Little India Foundation has distributed thousands of meals across the country and plans to expand its reach to more communities in the coming months.
“We are committed to making a lasting impact on the issue of hunger in India,” said Salim Khan. “Our ‘One Meal a Day’ campaign is just the beginning of our efforts to create a hunger-free India.”
Through the “One Meal a Day” campaign, Little India Foundation and Salim Khan hope to inspire others to join the fight against hunger in India and make a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most.
