The Congress Party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi named Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh. The Congress Party won the Himachal Pradesh election with 40 seats in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The previous Assembly’s Leader of the Opposition party, Mukesh Agnihotri, has been appointed as Deputy Chief Minister in the state.
The party’s generals chose Mr. Sukhu as the chief minister of the state after deciding for two days over the names of other candidates. Mr. Sukhu was chosen as the party’s head during the Congress Legislature Party gathering, the oath is taken by him on December 11. According to Mr. Sukhu, the government’s first objective would be to keep all of its commitments to the State’s citizens.
According to a party insider, Mr. Sukhu had the top leadership’s blessing and the CLP was a formality. Mr. Sukhu defeated the other candidates, including Pratibha Singh, the widow of the late Virbhadra Singh, a six-time CM, and Mr. Agnihotri, the departing CLP leader. We have heard that Mr. Sukhu has the support of the majority of MLAs, to satisfy the opposition party they made Mukesh Agnihotri the Deputy Chief Minister in the state.
