The Indian film industry has become increasingly reliant on remakes in the past couple of years, with Bollywood’s slate chock-full of remakes and adaptations of old classics, popular South Indian films, and hits from around the globe. While such familiarity can be comforting in a time of unprecedented change, taking a well-worn route isn’t necessarily the most successful way to ensure a hit. It’s no secret that remakes can come with either tremendous success or abysmal failure at the box office. Unfortunately, over the past few years, a greater number of remade films have failed than triumphed. Movies like Zanjeer, Chashme Baddoor, and Himmatwala have failed to score well at the box office. Some movies though like Don, Agneepath, and the recent Drishyam 2 have managed to have great numbers.
Now a rumor turned news is coming up that two of Bollywood’s young actors, Ranveer Singh and Janhvi Kapoor, are set to star in a remake of the iconic 1988 classic Tezaab. According to the news, both Shraddha Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan were considered for the roles, but the makers have finally decided to set their sights on Ranveer and Janhvi. The original Tezaab, directed by N. Chandra, starred Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit and was one of the most iconic love stories that the industry has seen. The film was a huge success and garnered critical acclaim for its story, direction, and performances from both Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.
