The University Grants Commission (UGC) has barred the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) from offering distance learning online courses. The decision comes after the university allegedly violated UGC’s norms and regulations.
UGC stated that NMIMS had not obtained the necessary approval for its distance learning courses and also did not comply with the commission’s regulations. As a result, the commission has asked the university to stop offering these courses immediately.
Furthermore, UGC has also issued a notice to NMIMS directing the university to submit a compliance report within 30 days. The report should detail the corrective measures taken by the university to rectify the issues pointed out by the commission.
NMIMS is a private university located in Mumbai and offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in fields such as management, engineering, law, and commerce. The university is known for its distance learning programs, which are popular among working professionals.
The university has been asked to comply with UGC’s norms and regulations for offering distance learning courses. The commission’s decision is aimed at ensuring that students receive quality education and that universities follow the necessary rules and regulations.
This decision has come as a shock to the university and its students, who were not expecting such action from the UGC. NMIMS has not yet issued a statement regarding the decision.
This is not the first time that UGC has taken action against universities for violating its norms and regulations. The commission has previously barred several universities from offering distance learning courses due to non-compliance.
