Indian batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the upcoming World Test Championship final due to a thigh injury. The injury was sustained during the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, where Rahul was captaining the Kings.
According to reports, Rahul was facing a short ball from Royals’ fast bowler Kartik Tyagi when he suffered the injury. He attempted to carry on batting but was visibly in pain and eventually retired hurt. Subsequent scans revealed a strain in his left thigh, which has ruled him out of the IPL and the WTC final against New Zealand.
Rahul’s absence will be a major blow for both the Kings and the Indian team. The Kings had been banking on Rahul’s form at the top of the order, while the Indian team will miss his batting prowess and leadership skills in the crucial WTC final.
Rahul had been in good form in the IPL, scoring 331 runs in seven innings with four half-centuries at a strike rate of 136.21. He had also played a key role in India’s historic Test series win against Australia earlier this year, scoring 338 runs in eight innings at an average of 48.28.
The Indian team management will now have to make a decision on who will replace Rahul in the squad for the WTC final. Possible replacements include Mayank Agarwal, who has been in good form in domestic cricket, and Shubman Gill, who impressed during India’s recent tour of Australia.
Overall, Rahul’s injury is a setback for both the Kings and the Indian team, but the team will be hoping for a swift recovery for the talented batsman.
