Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the first-ever AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in the northeastern region of India in Guwahati. The inauguration ceremony took place on the occasion of the 22nd foundation day of the Assam government.

The AIIMS in Guwahati will cater to the healthcare needs of people in the entire northeastern region, which was previously dependent on AIIMS in New Delhi for advanced medical treatment. The state-of-the-art hospital has been constructed at a cost of around Rs. 1,200 crore and is spread over an area of 189 acres.

During his visit to the northeastern state, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for a new airport in Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh. The airport will improve air connectivity in the region and boost tourism.

All About The Inauguration

In his address at the AIIMS inauguration, PM Modi highlighted the importance of healthcare and said that the government is committed to providing affordable and accessible healthcare to all. He also praised the medical fraternity for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister also announced that the government has plans to set up 22 new AIIMS across the country in the coming years to improve healthcare facilities in remote areas.

The AIIMS in Guwahati has a capacity of 750 beds and will offer various medical services, including surgery, radiology, pathology, cardiology, neurology, and gastroenterology, among others. The hospital will also have a research wing to facilitate medical research in the region.

The AIIMS will not only cater to the healthcare needs of people in the region but will also provide job opportunities to the local population. The hospital is expected to generate employment for around 2,000 people.

The inauguration of the AIIMS in Guwahati is a significant step towards improving healthcare facilities in the northeastern region, which has been neglected for a long time. The hospital will not only improve healthcare but also boost the economy of the region by creating job opportunities.
