In light of the significant amount of narcotics discovered at Gujarat ports in recent months, Nirmala Sitharaman’s remarks are noteworthy. She added that revenue intelligence officers should work to resolve each case logically as soon as possible and that smugglers would undoubtedly leave a trail that could be used to identify the principal handlers who are truly in charge of the operation. You would ensure that the smuggler couldn’t be smarter than you all… We must put in a lot of effort to ensure that the logical outcome applies to everyone who is involved in bringing cocaine into this country, not just the person who was arrested with a small amount or a kilogramme of it, she said.
Sitharaman was speaking at the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s (DRI) 65th anniversary celebration. DRI focuses largely on stopping the illegal importation of products such as gold, diamond counterfeit money, and other goods, as well as taking severe action against offenders.
Among other contraband, DRI captured 3,463 kilogrammes of heroin in the previous fiscal year (2021–2022), including 2,988 kilogrammes at the Mundra port, 833 kilogrammes of gold, and 321 kilogrammes of cocaine.According to her, news of drug seizures by DRI also cause people to wonder who the real big fish is behind them and how many of the accused ended up in jail.
