The Elections will be held to choose Delhi’s new Mayor and Deputy Mayor on 6th January 2023. According to a formal announcement made by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the newly elected councilors would take the oath on the same day. The deadline to submit nominations for the municipal election is December 27.
During the first sitting of the House, there will also be elections for the six seats on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi standing committee. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party, responded to the development by saying that they have not yet decided whether or not they would participate in the mayoral elections. At an upcoming party meeting, a final decision will be made.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won 134 seats in the recently held Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had ruled the former local body for 15 years. The Others Party gained three seats whereas the Congress won by 9 seats.
The Aam Aadmi Party MCD coordinator Durgesh Pathak said that their council members are now attempting to clean up the city. Delhi will soon undergo a significant transformation change in the upcoming times. The first and third years of the municipality’s five-year mayor’s tenure are designated for women and members of Scheduled Castes, correspondingly.
