During the review of the rescue efforts, Gadkari emphasized the paramount goal of preserving the workers’ lives. He revealed that a combination of strategies, including both vertical and perpendicular drilling, is being employed to navigate through the tunnel.

The collapsed tunnel is a part of the ambitious Char Dham road project undertaken by the central government. The workers got trapped last Sunday when a section of the tunnel caved in. In collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the Army’s construction wing is actively assisting in the ongoing rescue operation.

Chief Minister Dhami expressed the state government’s unwavering commitment to providing all necessary assistance to various agencies involved in the rescue operation. He acknowledged the increasing challenges faced by the trapped workers and emphasized the collective effort to expedite their rescue.

While initially attempting horizontal drilling, rescue workers have decided to adopt a vertical approach as well. A spot above the tunnel has been identified for vertical drilling, with an approximate depth of 300-350 feet. Simultaneously, horizontal rescue attempts are commencing from the Barkot end of the tunnel, according to Uttarkashi DFO DP Baluni.
