The National Food Security Act includes 81 crore people and the Union Cabinet of ministers agreed to provide them with free food supplies for a year.
The people who come under NFSA will get benefits in the future, the food minister calls it another extraordinary action of the administration. The Central government will give all of its costs, which are expected to total of rupees two lakh crore.
People who previously paid rupees one for cereal grains, rupees two for wheat, and rupees three for rice per kilogram will now receive 35 kg of food grains per month for the following year, while others will receive 5 kg of food grains per month.
Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Food just after the Cabinet session says the action was just another illustration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to him, Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has already guaranteed the needy five kilograms of food grains for free in the past 28 months.
In the most recent Assembly elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also made a political election appeal based on the schemes. According to the central government, there have been enough food grains stored to support the new social programs.
