Satya Pal Malik, the Governor of Meghalaya, has come out in support of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the post of Prime Minister. Malik made this statement while addressing a gathering of BJP workers in Lucknow on Monday.
“Rajnath Singh is an honest and hardworking leader who has a vision for the country. He has the ability to take everyone along and his experience in politics and governance makes him the perfect candidate for the post of Prime Minister,” Malik said.
The Governor also praised Singh for his leadership during the recent standoff with China in Ladakh. “Rajnath Singh’s leadership during the Ladakh standoff was exemplary. He handled the situation with calm and composure and ensured that our soldiers were not harmed,” Malik said.

Malik’s statement comes amid speculation that the BJP may consider Rajnath Singh as a possible candidate for the post of Prime Minister in the next general elections. However, Rajnath Singh himself has not commented on these reports.
Political analysts believe that Satya Pal Malik’s endorsement of Rajnath Singh could help the Defence Minister’s chances of being considered for the top post. “Satya Pal Malik is a veteran politician and his support for Rajnath Singh carries weight. It could also help the BJP consolidate its support base in Uttar Pradesh,” said a political analyst.
However, some in the BJP are of the view that the party should project a younger leader as its Prime Ministerial candidate. “Rajnath Singh is a senior leader and an important member of the party. However, the BJP needs to project a young, dynamic leader as its Prime Ministerial candidate to appeal to the youth,” said a BJP spokesperson.
The BJP has not yet announced its candidate for the post of Prime Minister for the next general elections, which are due in 2024. However, the party is expected to begin its preparations soon and the issue of the Prime Ministerial candidate is likely to be a key focus of its campaign.
