The Chief of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Harjinder Singh Dhami requested the Sikh community to remember the sons of Guru Gobind Singh’s memorial day as Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas rather than Veer Bal Diwas on December 26.
According to Harjinder Singh Dhami, to recognize Sahibzadas’ memorial day as Veer Bal Diwas is a mischievous plot to downplay the significance of the greatest sacrifice in religious history.
He stated that it is the historical truth that the Mughals were driven out of the north in large part due to the sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s two sons.
In January 2022, The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said that December 26 will be marked as “Veer Bal Diwas” to remember the deaths of the two sons of the tenth Sikh guru, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh.
Previously, The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had also opposed the name and requested the government to change this to Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas.
He also said that a group of Sikh intellectuals recommended the name “Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas” at Akal Takht’s request. He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has written to the Ministry of Culture and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over this issue. They further hope that Prime Minister will find a solution regarding this topic soon.
